So... funny enough, when the contest was announced I wrote little models
that did both those things (use Buffon's needle to estimate pi, and use
the radius of a circle made of turtles to estimate pi).

Maybe I should have entered, but that's not my point. If you're

It struck me that the Buffon's needle model didn't actually achieve one
of the goals of the contest, which was that the calculation's accuracy
improve as the number of turtles increases... is that an issue for the
judging?
