Cherokee Users/Developers:
It has been mentioned before that I am working on a brand
new
documentation system for Cherokee. This is true, of course,
but with
the new documentation system I have also taken on the task
of
re-creating the Cherokee website to be much much better
overall. Since
the new documentation system will have the ability to pull
directly
from Subversion I also wanted to take on the task of fixing
Trac since
it is pretty broken right now. All of that work is going
very well and
will have a demo of the new Trac up later this week. Once
everything
has been tested I can call it stable and get it running at
cherokee-project.com!
The new features of the website include:
- New documentation system (hooks right into SVN so docs
can be
contained to specific versions of Cherokee)
- Complete i18n!! The documentation system AND the new
website will
have complete support for as many languages as we can
translate them
to. This is all thanks to the AWESOME i18n support Django
has built
right in.
- New blog system (a good place where we can provide
updates to the
community about Cherokee and its development)
- Brand new Trac system using 0.10.4. Trac will be fixed
up and
working (you will be able to actually submit tickets hehe).
It will be
a fluid design as opposed to the current fixed width so it
will work
better on bigger screens.
- Perhaps more features once I or you think of them!
Want to help me? I need translators! Since the
documentation and
website will have i18n support the only next step is to get
the text
translated from English to any language you can use. If you
are
interested in helping with this let me know. Shoot me an
e-mail at
brosner gmail.com with your e-mail (obvisisouly) and what
language you
would like to support. Once the site hits stable with
functionality I
will be able to send you gettext files for you to translate.
The rule
is if we want to add any other language other than English
then you
must be able to translate both the website and documentation
to allow
that language to be included. I don't want to have
incomplete
languages and I don't think you would either if it was your
langauge ;)
Wow, with all this typing I forgot to give you the best
part.
http://cherokee.hostado
t.net/
It is a pre-alpha release and nothing is final or even
complete (so
anything can change.) But you get the idea ;) Yes, yes I
know it is
being served off of Apache (ick) but it was quick and easy
at the time.
Final version will work with Cherokee (there is a bug in
Cherokee and
Django that is sort of holding it up a little).
Let me know what you think!

Even if there are still a bunch of things to do, I have
to say that
the new site is amazing. It doesn't look as good as the
current one,
although the most important thing is the technology
underneath.
It will fix both the bug tracker and the documentation
problems at
once. You have all my support, your work have been
awesome so far.
congrats!!

No.
I expected that someone would take over the task. I have
a bunch of
things to do in Cherokee and the administration
interface.

All the translation files are in
cherokee-www/trunk/cherokee/locale.
Right now there is just en and es. If you wanted to create
other ones
check out the i18n docs at
htt
p://www.djangoproject.com/documentation/i18n/. You can
go ahead and
patch against that if you like.
I have more strings that haven't been put in there yet since
I haven't
run the command to generate them in a little while. If you
are up for
the Spanish translation I will let you know once I get a
little further
so that I wont have to keep updating the translation files.
