It sounds like your dns server is at fault. The first step
is to define g_dns_host as a single
local dns server that you are sure works. Second check
firewall settings for port 53, it must be
open for both tcp and udp access from surgemail to the name
server and from the name server to the
world.
If none of that helps, install a different dns server, and
make sure it does forwarding correctly.
