Problem with a list, but no other adresses. When using another SMTP-server the mail is forwarded to
user name

Hi!

I have a strange problem with my Surgemail-mailserver.
I have a mailinglist, let's call it test.com">testtest.com and then a normal E-mailaddresse test.com">mrxtest.com on my local mail-server.
My Emailadress test.com">mrxtest.com works fine in the sense that all mails addresses to it, is delivered. (Using my own SMTP-server or using an public one like Hotmail).
The problem is the maillinglist.
If I use my own SMTP-server the mail is delivered without any problems to all members of the list. If I use a public one, the mail isn't delivered to any of the subscribers, which is quite a
problem.
Before the weekend the list was working correctly, but sometime monday it started to act weird in the sense I've just described.
As far as I can see, the mail is stored locally, when using a public SMTP-server (hotmail.com">xxxxhotmail.com is the addresse I've send the mail from):

16 23:43:49[2] Dlist 212.10.30.236 dlist test.com"><testtest.com> 0 mid test.com/1161035029_1.itm">"c:surgemail/dlist/in/testtest.com/1161035029_1.itm"

The dlist.log when sending a mail (using a public SMTP-server) looks like this:
16 23:42:43 info: Found List (test.com">testtest.com)
16 23:42:43 info: reset throttle usage for list 'test.com">testtest.com'
16 23:43:54 info: Processing C:surgemailtest.com/1161035029_2.itm">dlist/in/testtest.com/1161035029_2.itm
16 23:43:57 info: Processing Input File (C:surgemailtest.com/1161035029_2.itm__busy">dlist/in/testtest.com/1161035029_2.itm__busy) size 2263
16 23:43:57 info: Return path is <> so ignoring bounce
16 23:43:57 info: Checking for loops () (test.com">testtest.com)
16 23:43:57 info: Fix email (Jakob Thomsen hotmail.com"><xxxxhotmail.com>)
16 23:43:57 info: Fix email done (hotmail.com">xxxxhotmail.com)
16 23:43:57 info: return path is <> so it's a bounce
16 23:43:57 error: Ignoring message that appears to be a bounce (hotmail.com">xxxxhotmail.com) ()
It looks like the return path is set to <> or something.
Anyone who have experienced the same thing or know a solution?

Cheers
Jakob

Hi ,

This log indicates the mesesage from the external smtp
server is a bounce message (e.g. one that has no return
path) as such dlist is probably
dropping it as expected.

So the question isn't really why didnt' dlist process it,
it's why did the message arrive as a bounce rather than a
normal email.

Examining the message in question may explain what it really
is. My guess is it's contents will give some explanation.

To examine it you could Kill dlist and then grab the file
when it comes in
 Scan .... C:surgemaildlist/in/testtest.com/*.itm
(then startup dlist to see what it does once you've
examined the file, by restarting surgemail)
