Jody,
That depends on how you want to configure any automated
failover. One could
rely on the DNS names with the TTL set to a very low figure
and then have a
script running that checks to make sure that the master is
still live. When
it detects that the master is not responding the script
could then change
the DNS entry and customers coming online after the TTL
expired will get
the slave mirror instead of the primary.
On the other hand if you were to use some kind of router to
handle the
switch over then I think the IP instead of dns would be
better.
