Default Domain

Hi-

I added a vdomain, and somehow it became the default domain;
I would
prefer that it be the name of the machine. I can't seem to
figure out
how to set it back.... Is there a setting I can use to
reset it?

Thanks,

-Mike

Un-do your changes then goto the Domains page and click on the Add Domain button.
Also remember to do a tellmail restart

Do you mean that I should delete the new domain? It's already in use and has lots of queued email in it, not to mention passwords and such. ; And shouldn't it work without a tellmail restart, using the web interface?

Thanks,

-Mike

This question is best answered by NetWin staff because you started using it.... You didn't say that in your original post.
however I would think that just MOVING where it's listed in the surgemail.ini wouldn't have any effect on the mailboxes or the deliveries - just for things related to 'default domain'. I'd say that you might need to edit surgemail.ini directly in this case (swapping position of listed domains). Let's see what NetWin says.

Netwin says hmmm.

I am not sure why if you added a domain it would have become
the default
domain. Can I ask what is making you think the new domain
you added is
the default domain? As Barry pointed out, the order that
domains are in
the surgemail.ini is what determines which is the
main/defauly domain.
The first domain in surgemail.ini is the default. You can
stop
surgemail completely, edit surgemail.ini and swap vdomain
sections and
move whichever you want to the first in the file to make it
the new default.

Perhaps you should send us your surgemail.ini and let us
know what
should be the default domain and which is currently.

RE: Default Domain

I would like to change my default domain as well. I have a
mirrored pair of
SM servers. What changes do I need to make? Should I edit
both ini files
(master/slave) to reshuffle the order? What effects will
occur when I make
a different domain name the default?

Re: Default Domain

Hi Dave,
If all of your users are using Clients like Outlook Express, then swapping positions should be no problem.
The Webmail Login pages might change... which is why there's a webmail_url setting on each Domain page. ; Once that's set correctly, it shouldn't make any difference what the Default Domain is.

Shut down the primary server
Make change to surgemail.ini
net start surgemail
    and test it.
If OK, then do same to the Mirror machine.

Note: ; Depending on which version of Surgemail you are running, different files are copied from the primary to the backup computer.
Likewise, Admins can add some or all files to be mirrored; even the ini files, but there are special instructions (somewhere) to not copy certain settings -- i.e. the Webmail settings... because if the primary server goes down and the Mirror machine picks up the load, you don't want it trying to log into the same URL (on the Downed machine).
If you are using a recent release, get a list of all files that are being mirrored. I don't remember which files are mirrored.

This is an interim response. It would be best to wait for an 'official' answer from NetWin.
Personally, "If it's not broke, don't fix it".
