Netwin did respond, I recall seeing it but don't recall the
exact message.
Something along the lines of... they shouldn't be getting
that big... send
us some info... I'm sure they'll let you know again what
they need.

Hi-

Thanks, but their reply was attached to your response.

They asked me to verify that the extension was indeed .dat, and they wanted to see the info from "tellmail pstat_dump", which I posted below (it was empty).

If surgemail support needs it, my surgemail.ini file is the same as the one I sent on Jan 29 at 17:55 GMT titled "Re: Default Domain".

Hi-

I haven't heard anything back on this---any idea what the problem is? I
neglected to empty the surgemail log directory out on Friday and our
server ran out of space on the weekend.

Thanks,

-Mike

Hi-

I have only one or two active users on that machine, despite having a
10,000-user license. It is mostly a secondary-MX machine. When I type
"tellmail pstat_dump", I get the following:

    D:surgemailrec0702>;tellmail pstat_dump
    SurgeMail Version 3.8f3-3, Built Jan 12 2007 09:38:51, Platform

    flags=0, host=skadi:XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX, prod=surgemail

    Dumping pstat information pstat.dump

... That's it.

And it's definitely the stat*.dat files:

The pstat database files (pstat.dat & pstat.previous) should contain
approx 150 bytes per active account. And the recyymm/stat*.dat files
should contain daily difs of this file. So even if you had 100K users
the daily stat files should only be around 10MB.

We have had bugs in the past that added corrupt pstat entries, but
even if you had that, it still should not show up in the way of huge
stat files.

Start by looking at your pstat files (you can dump the contents of
the pstat database using "tellmail pstat_dump").

The only thing you lose be deleting these files is that this info is
used for the generation of the "Monthly usage reports" on the reports
page.

Or were you actually referring to the msgyymm/msgyymmdd.rec files?
These are just the delivery logs and can easily grow to several
hundred MB a day on a busy server.

Hi-

I see from the list archives that the stat*.dat files can be deleted
safely, but it also ambiguously says that they're used for
"reporting". What reporting capabilities am I losing by deleting
them? They add about 1/4 Gigabyte per day to the hard drive---is
there any way to disable or delete them automatically?

Thanks!

-Mike
