I am going to have to wait until NetWin weighs in on this discussion.
The only thing I managed to change was by specifying a directory
instead of a file, I managed to get it to say it searched 5 files
instead of 1, but nothing I tried managed to actually find a single
email with archive_search.
I cann't even get tellmail archive_search or archive_extract to give me
a meaningfull error.

what are you using for the
extract string? Try to loosen it way up - then tighten back in to
narrow what you need.
As near as I can tell the tellmail archive_extract does not work. It
doesn't give me an error message, just comes back and sezs extracted 0
messages.

commented that the docs were weak on this. All I had found was.

So that actually tells me that outlook should work.
If I could make a suggestion / request -
since your going from scratch on this - document everything your doing
(screenshot too) step by step. And put it into the new Wiki for future
use ?
There is no documentation on the netwin website for these two tellmail
commands. Are they commands that may disappear or just not
documented? I tend to get concerned about undocumented features...
It would be nice if there was an option in Archive to drop them in a
specific account & IMAP folder.

P.S. I have an archive going and am going to play some more this
afternoon.

Give it a shot, set up the
archive. (I set up one for receiving and one for sending). Then
tomorrow - or in a few hours. do an extract, mind you I've only
extracted and used it with webmail - I have not tried to use it for
outlook and I do not know if it would or not. I understood it was sort
of an IMAP type of thing - so maybe you can setup a separate IMAP
account within Outlook - but I'm really only speculating on this point.
If that works, it would not be too hard to drop the emails into an
admin account once a day with a cron job.

I am unsure if this helps, but
it's a tellmail command.
You can search these using the tellmail commands:
archive_search myarchive mail_store_account new to=* from=*
subject=*
range=01/01/2007-07/01/2007
and
archive_extract myarchive mail_store_account new to=* from=*
subject=*
range=01/01/2007-07/01/2007
David,
I agree that it would seem using archive is a good approach. Is there
documentation on how to move email from the archive to a mailbox? I
see that function is hinted at in the documentation, but have not found
anything further on how to do that. Nor have I found anything in the
webadmin other than putting the archive in a file somewhere.
This particular customer does want it in a mailbox.
Thanks,
Lyle

Lyle,
Having had to do this in the past, the most reasonable, scalable, and
easiest to monitor solution is archive. Archive has the capability of
delivering mail out of the archive to any specific mailbox. I don't know if
you can schedule it to happen automatically, but you can command it via the
web interface, and apply filters as well.

I put in a domain rule, but that appears to only capture inbound

Any pointers or help here?

Ok, I was a bit quick. The domain rule does catch ALL inbound email.
But it doesn't catch any outbound email. Is there a way to 'mirror'
outbound email this way?
Thanks,
Lyle

right you don't specify the individual file - the date
specifications do that.
if you do this - what comes of it? btw - try the web
interface also for a test.
tellmail archive_extract
/home/surgemail/archive/lcrcomputer.com to=* from=*
