Lyle,

When did mcafee start using a proxy? As far as I know only
Norton does that
right now...

We use mcafee here and I have not had a single complaint
about this
problem...

Not sure when McAfee started, but I have seen it and AVG also uses the proxy mode. ; (we have problems with the proxy mode failing and silently dropping email and that's where we get the complaints and have to follow up.)

Your AV product proxys the smtp session inside the computer. The error
is not from Surge, but from the proxy inside your AV product.

Task 'mail.grady.k12.ga.us - Sending' reported error
(0x8004210B) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a

receive this message, contact your server administrator or

I am using Outlook 2003 but we are also experiencing the
same type error using Thunderbird. Regular emails without
attachments work fine.

Virus scanning? Are you using Norton anti-virus on the desktop?
