This error has become frequent as the blackberry servers
seem to have
just started using imap and holding connections open which
in surgemail
causes a problem as it locks out pop access so the user
can't read their
email from a normal (non imap) email client.
To fix set this setting:
g_pop_nolock "true"
This setting doesn't cause any known problems and will fix
the above
errors. Ignore the warnings in the manual about this setting

I tell all my users to do BlackBerry push (forward from
Surge), solves all
those problems, in my opinion.

"your mail box is temporarily unavailable because
another e-mail message is being delivered to it or another application is
accessing it"
Is this in any way related to what you were discussing here? You
are addressing reading, not sending.
If not, does any one have a clue what might be happening here?
Again, they were doing fine until today which leads me to suspect that
the Blackberry folks did something over the weekend.

Interesting on the send problem, not experienced here.
I've gotten all of our users to NOT use the BlackBerry
"pull" from their
email, but to set it up as a PUSH from Surge, using the
Forward to their
Blackberry address. This solves several problems they were
having.
If they had their email client open, and polling for new
email every minute
or two (you know people can't wait 10 minutes to see if they
have new email
these days <smile>), and they did NOT have their
client configured to leave
mail on the server, and were using POP3 (all of our staff
are configured
that way), then they would MISS email on their Blackberry,
because it would
have been pulled by their email program, and deleted from
the server. Then
when the BB would check for new mail, there would be none,
and a complaint
of "I'm not getting all my email on my
Blackberry".
Changing it to being forwarded after all filter and
exceptions (takes
advantage of the Surge Spam filtering), then as soon as it
arrives in their
Inbox, it's also forwarded straight to their Blackberry (or
other hand held,
like a Treo). Thus, the Blackberry has no reason to
actually connect to the
mail server.
And, if I'm not mistaken, Blackberries send directly from
the Blackberry
servers, not relaying thru your server, and you can
configure a replyto
address in the Blackberry so it looks like it came from your
main address.
At least know that T-Mobile and Cingular/ATT work that way
here in the US.
There even used to be a webmail portal on BlackBerry email
at the service
provider (T-Mobile, etc.), where you could see email still
on their server.
Some time ago (at least a year), on T-Mobile, they dropped
that, and changed
from a limit of 25meg in your online mailbox, to unlimited
storage for a
maximum of 60 days before it was purged from the server.
I know I have my BB setup that way, and most times, I get
the email on the
Blackberry before Outlook pulls it in. Outlook pulls for me
once every 3
minutes, but if you PUSH to the Blackberry, as soon as it
arrives at the BB
address, it's sent to the handheld.
Just a few thoughts that might help.

Interesting this should come up today. I was advised by
one of our
clients that their people who have been using blackberries
suddenly, today,
are having trouble sending email through the surgemail
server. They can
receive email, but they can not send it from the blackberry
- they get
"your mail box is temporarily unavailable because
another e-mail
message is being delivered to it or another application is
accessing it"
Is this in any way related to what you were discussing

This appears not to be a problem, but probably a useful
idea. At
first my thought was if they forwarded their email they
would never
see it on their desktop. Then I recalled the default
setting that
leaves it on the server. I hardly ever use forwarding but I
have had
to set it up from time to time for a client.

We are running Windows version 3.8i3-3 (we upgraded to it
July 3)
We have several Verizon Blackberry device users and 1
Cingular BB user who
all of a sudden began having problems recently (we became
aware of most of
them on Monday, July 16, but at least one Verizon user had
problems over the
weekend). After the problem started, some would get their
email on their BB
and some would not get email on the BB. But when they came
into the office
and logged into their email client (we have users in both
Outlook 2000 and
Outlook Express 6) the Outlook users got the following
message:
There was a problem logging into your mail server. Your user
name or
password was rejected. Server response: '-ERR [IN USE]
maildb_burst username
User already logged in, software lock domain#useraccount#_
at 6962 (try
again in 15 minutes)'. (Account 'xxxx', POP3 Server 'ip
address', Error
Number 0x800ccc92
Outlook Express users received a similar message.
The Cingular user has several POP3 email accounts through
other providers
and I would think that they have different email server
software and she is
not having any problems with this issue on those accounts. I
am wondering if
RIM/Blackberry upgraded recently that caused this problem to
start with
SurgeMail.
As a result, we are trying the push method that Glenn
Meadows suggested and
it seems to be working, but I am still curious as to what
happened and
where. I have a call into Verizon's tech department but have
not heard back.
If there is pertinent information, I will post it to this
list. If anyone
out there has an idea or solution, I would like to hear it
as would these
others. Thanks.

THIS is a perfect example of the usefulness of this list.
It could have taken me days to figure out the problem was at
Blackberry;
and now that I've read these posts, every time I get the
call with this
question I immediately ask, Does the user have a Blackberry?
and we're
off to the races.
Thank you all.

I Hate "PULL" services <smile>.
I also have long time ago disabled the pop lock feature
<smile>.
It's possible that with BlackBerry changing their software,
in an effort to
retrieve mail more quickly than they used to, they actually
end up not
closing their mail server connections.
I'd check and see how many open channels might exist, to see
if you see an
inordinate number open to any of the various BB server
locations.
Thanks
