I thought the same, but hadn't thought about Pete's idea to
make sure he
didn't have the reply set. He may have inadvertently
clicked yes. He
claims not to have released anything, but seemed odd to me.
By Held you mean the pending folder in the friends portion?

Does he use the Held folder? Did he perhaps release them?
Reply to them? Has
he received email from those spam addresses?
There are only three ways I know of to add Friends.
manually, by sending to
those addresses (with 'add outgoing addresses to friends'
checked and by releasing them from the Held folder with the
button to
release and add to friends.
In all likelihood, it's pilot error.
