| load: Invalid ini setting
(g_friends_pending_novanish) |
  United States |
2007-08-31 17:51:45 |
Just upgraded from 3.7b6-6 to 3.8k4-4, during the install of
the upgrade
I got this at the command line:
load: Invalid ini setting (g_friends_pending_novanish)
The rest of the install appears to have gone fine and it
started back up.
Any idea why this error would occur?
I am now off to look up this setting and see what it's
currently set to.

| list serve virus scans |
  United States |
2007-09-01 18:15:30 |
I have a feeling this is a setting that I have simply not
discovered.
Problem is this:
Customer sends out a mailing list note. Surgemail of course
gets the
note and sends (attempts to send) to each member of that
list. That's
good so far. Problem I see - is that my virus scanner
(clamav) is
being called to scan each transmission of the message. The
scan only
needs to happen once. That would be when the original
message arrives
from the sender.... As you might imagine - a pile of virus
scan
processes running - when dlist is working a large list - can
make
your mailserver sweat abit....
Am I missing something?
thanks in advance,
Ken

Set g_vpipe_skip "127.0.0.1"
That will whitelist messages coming from that ip.

I have never seen that before on a mail server. I would
assume there is
some filter checking the date headers or something. I would
check these
are correct. It is not an error that SurgeMail produces so
there is
something else sending it..

Why does the X-Verify-Helo header sometimes/always show
Lookup Failed, wanted <ip address>
I cannot filter on this header if it's not returning
correct answers.
What does this header do and what should the responses
be?
When you goto Find the config setting 'helo', it
returns "spam control" page.... but there are so many sections on the Spam
Control page to look...
and I cannot find any listings on the Spam
Control page with g_helo in it.
Wazzup?
Are the docs & Find function in the admin control
panel correctly programmed for Helo?

Can you give a few examples. It could be:
1) invalid names which will fail to lookup.
2) it just isn't waiting long enough for these dns lookups
to come back.
3) your dns lookups are failing due to dns fault or load.
4) something else

The Received-SPF and Received: from lines show the IP
and the name. Therefore, DNS is not failing.
Comcast, Optonline.net and other major cable providers
will block your IP if you attempt to verify their senders on incoming emails...
which is one of the reasons why the Friends system is good (it sends an
email, not a <>).
and I don't remember if we have Verify All Senders turned
on or not... probably... with some of those ISPs on the Exception
List.
Some of the emails that have been accepted here have the
X-Verify-Helo line, while others don't.
I'm wondering if the appearance of the X-Verify-Helo is
controlled by the user's settings.
Regardless, What does this header do and what
should the responses be?
98% of residential customers have Friends turned on.
Some business customers have everything turned off - even SPF-Fail.
Consequently those business customers are receiving all kinds of junk mail from
outside the USA.
I recommend to them all to turn on Friends, but
most customers 'don't have a clue' and are not willing to receive
phonecalls from first-time senders who receive the Friends Challenge... because
the sender says "your server rejected my email" (which is incorrect... teach
the Moroons how to READ.) This also tells me to re-design the Friends
Challenge to say something like "Hello first-time sender. If you want to
send me emails, Click Here." -- anything else confuses them.
The Surgemail server is doing a great job for those with
Friends turned on and SPF turned on, I am just trying to make life less painful
for the business clients.
