| Spam & Virus processing at
Proxy/FrontEnd level |
  Portugal |
2007-10-19 11:30:34 |
Hi there!
Mail is continuously growing, and now we feel that it's no
longer wise
to carry on using a shared storage cluster architecture.
We'll be moving to a proxy server system with mirrored
backend servers.
During testing we realized that proxy servers don't do spam
or virus
processing in new messages.
Is it possible, in any way, to make them do that job,
instead of the
backend servers?
This way, spam and virus would be blocked right at the MX
record level,
instead of making traffic into the network until the
backends.
Thanks in advance,
Nelio Vieira

Sounds like you'd want to possibly setup a third machine as
a "Surge wall"
to deal with spam/virus scans that pass along to the backend
mail servers.
Also, there are dedicated appliances now that can handle the
spam/virus
scans. I know on ISP that has one of the Barracuda boxes,
and they process
close to 500k emails per day very effectively.

Hmm... We process about the same with a single Surgemail
server.

Thanks a lot guys!
I've been reading the manual a bit further and found the
option
"g_route_by_tohost - Route based on authent 'tohost'
field".
Can it be done this way? configuring front-ends as proxy's
for POP &
IMAP, and then using this option for SMTP, does it work?

| Rename Account? |
  Norway |
2007-10-25 15:28:52 |
Hi,
We have some mail accounts named according to job functions,
e.g.
"accounting", "service" etc., which
contain tons of achieved mails.
I need to rename a few of these accounts (e.g. to
"accounting.archive.2006
etc) in order to free up and reuse the same account names in
new and empty
accounts.
Is there an easy way to do this?
Best regards,
Robert Hercz

In the account section load the account up, there should be
a rename
field & button at the bottom.
