Hi!

Is there a way to create a summary mail of all messages in
the "Held"
folder and send that out each day to the users?

If not, would it be possible to script this somehow (i.e. is
info
like this available through some sort of command line
interface)?

Thanks!

Best regards,
Richard Taubo

All customers have a Logs page where they can choose the depth of logs they desire.  Here at our place, 99% of customers use Outlook Express and have only "include friends system pending message list" selected.  Most customers will get totally frustrated if other logs get pushed in their face. ; And logs are turned Off for customers using webmail.

For the customers using Outlook Express or 3rd party mail client, the format of the Logs Reports is in /surgemail/status.eml - which can have a plain text and a html part.
The command https://YourDomain.com:7443/cgi/user.cgi?lcmd=user_load_pending will send the person to the Login page, then after login will take them directly to the Friends Pending folder. Kewl... but this URL gets discombooberated when putting it in the status.eml file. ; I've even tried adding =3d to the html coding, but it's still not working, so we take the people to a www.domain.com/user_load_pending.htm page which does a meta refresh to the correct URL.  This works.

If a customer is using a mail client, probably the best thing to do is to direct them to Webmail, where they can puruse the Pending folder and the Held folder, etc.

We are basically against Webmail here, because an Email server is a transaction server, not a &*#% permanent file storage area.
For 12 years, we preferred the customers use Outlook Express (whatever...) so that the emails are moved off the server onto their computers.  Likewise, we prefer POP3 vs IMAP. ;
Somewhere in Surgemail is a setting to only accept IMAP connections if the IP matches... i.e. 127.0.0.1) but I haven't had the time to look into that.
Our staff here all feel that if the customer uses Webmail, there's less support needed... but there's also the file storage liability.  We previously tried to get all the customers to use Outlook Express... however recently we're switching attitude towards encouraging the customers to use SurgePlus - which might end up fixing all the other issues at the expense of a few 500-gig hard drives.  If the operating system supports compression, i.e. a W2K3 drive formatted with compression enabled on the drive that has the /mbox directory, then the liability can be minimized.  This would also work in a Cluster environment.

Hey guys, let's discuss the pro's and con's of SurgePlus.
