Hi guys,
Thanx for excellent help (I unfortunately overlooked
yesterday's post from
Stuart when I wrote my post earlier today).
The reason was exactly as Stuart suggested: There was an
external
antivirus-program on the Master which had hold of port 110.
Once that was
uninstalled, things suddenly started to work just fine.
In the course of setting up things, I have noticed (and
again today) that
the "Mirror shared secret" password has a tendency
to disappear in the GUI,
being replaced by an "=" sign. Dunno why this
happens though.
I also need to request a user-defined setting specifically
for mirroring
port(s): Not only will this enable external
antivirus-mechanisms to work on
standard mail ports, it will also enable firewall/routing
control mechanisms
to be used and thus improving overall security.
Best regards,
Robert

Hi Robert,
The data for mirroring is sent on the pop port (110). The
error message
you are getting is not from surgeMail, therefore I would
take a guess
and say you have an antivirus program, or something else
that is
checking the pop port to monitor messages and as it doesn't
understand
the mirroring protocol being used is issuing that error.
That would be my guess but if that doesn't apply then get
back to me and
I'll try and think of something else .
Regards,
Stuart

Aha!
Glad it's working.
I don't understand your last paragraph. What will
the 'user-defined setting' do? Do you mean to "process the mirrored files
through the anti-virus software"?

Verification Pending Message window |
  United States |

|
|
When a customer reads their list of pending
emails
1. It would be useful to display the "Received-From"
line or the "sender-server-Helo", "sender-server-IP-name" and the
"sender-server-IP-number" - either will do. What are the
||variable names|| for these?
... Since the Sender-Server info is displayed after the
message is clicked on, surely these variables can be displayed also on the
LIST of pending emails. Yes, it may take longer to render the list, but
it's very useful info nowdays.
2. In addition to displaying the From-Address in the
list of pending emails, if the Reply-To address is different, could that be
displayed as well?
Reason: Many ID thefts arriving from AOL, Hotmail,
Yahoo variables, Gmail that contain a different Reply-To address... in
addition to a 3rd email address in the message body. Customers would get a
better idea whether to release the message manually or to let it on the list and
wait for the sender to click to verify.0
3. When a customer clicks on the View link to see a
pending message, and the message opens in a new window, html-formatted messages
are totally blank...meaning there isn't a text portion to the message.
Years ago, this wasn't a big deal, but there are more & more pure html
messages nowdays, and the customers are getting confused --They don't know to
release blank messages or not.
Is it possible to render the html but without rendering
any images? (display broken link icon)

Just set the pop port to whatever you want to use mirroring
on and keep
the old port too
g_pop_port "110,newport"
then set
g_mirror_host "ip:newport"
