One of our clients discovered today that among the options
under
Advanced/Webmail Filtering Rules she had been using for
customized
spam filtering was no longer working. When we looked into
it this
was designated "obsolete" and it appears to have
been so since before
June last year based on messages posted to the list. The
filter
rules she had set up there were found under
"Options" > "Filters and
Exception" but these do not seem to be working.

The bottom line is it appears anyone who had set up filters
under the
Webmail Filtering Rules has lost the filtering even though
the same
rules appear to now be under Filters and Exceptions.

I am puzzled as to why this JUST surfaced. And is it
possible the
older rules defined under webmail filtering, even though
apparently
moved to the Filters and Exeptions, might not be working
now?

I also saw a note from Marijn in June stating

"The next major release of webmail will not have the
webmail only
filtering rules and will solely use the server "

Marijn, can you elaborate on this? Are you saying local
user engaged
filtering rules will no longer work?

Under what conditions are these not working? And
specifically what is not
working?

It is more that this functionality has been superceeded
rather than being
obsolete. All the filtering rules and webmail only spam
options get applied
when webmail gets executed and webmail actually sees a
messages. Before
this all the serverside spam processing and filtering will
have already been
done though.

No filters should have automatically been copied across no.

I would think this is the user experimenting with filters.
There should be
no "copying across" of existing filters.

For the current webmail product both will definitely
continue to work. As to
exactly how the next generation of webmail product
implements everything it
has not been finalised.
