proper use of host_alias

i have a customer who will start using my email service
soon.

they have a fairly large number of accounts, so it would be
best if 
their mail client software (outlook) didn't have to change
on each 
worksatation.

their domain is (e.g.) xyz.com and the current server name
is mail.xyz.com

when we make the changeover mail.xyz.com will point to the
surgemail ip.

am i correct in that their vdomain, i have
name="xyz.com" and also have 
a host_alias "mail.xyz.com"?

and.... what about url_host?

You only need a host_alias if you want to accept mail to the
addresses 
usersmail.xyz.com and have them delivered to the mailboxes
of the addresses 
usersxyz.com.

Yes you do need to set url_host to mail.xyz.com as this is
what will be 
displayed for any generated links to the web pages etc.

Yes correct, for normal mail delivery you just need to have
the vdomain 
"xyz.com" defined.

The only thing to watch is for various forms of web access
to work on 
mail.xyz.com you will need set url_host to mail.xyz.com.
(webmail support, 
links in emails that get sent out by user.cgi mailbox
filtering etc).
