| Hi All
We do a rolling backup of
all SurgeMail folders and files, twice a day, and have the last 5 days and the
last 4 Sunday backups,
We do this using Robocopy
and found this is very quick, it is backed up to external HDD on a secondary
PC.
The SurgeMail server does
not have virus protection activated.
The remote PC does. CA ITM.
V8
As it was backing up it
found a couple of nasties which it proclaimed it had cured.
Question:
If it finds a virus in a
mail and cannot cure and I have it set to quarantine or delete is it going to
delete Just that mail or will it do damage??

That's not a good thing to do. Email is stored in .bkt files under
surge. More than one email can and probably will be in that .bkt
file. You should not be doing file level virus scanning on email
stores. I don't know your message load, but at least consider clamav
or AVAST to scan each message as it's being received instead.

Hi,
Each email is stored in its own file so deleting one file
should not
cause any harm to surgemail. If a lot are deleted it could
throw the
quota for that person out until they next login.
This assumes you have not turned on g_maildir_netwin
"true"

Stuart

Stuart,
Are you sure? I am looking at my server and in
/home/surgemail/lcrcomputer.com/lyle/vg/wc/lyle/mdir/new, I
definately
see more than one email in the .bkt files.

Hi,
Do you have g_maildir_netwin "true" set?
Unless you have that set it shouldn't be using the indexed
bucket files.

Stuart

Yes, it is. But that's not something I would have
necessarily changed
as I don't remember it. Based on the warnings, I doubt I
would have
turned it on without advice from Netwin support.
So your advice to Tom really depends on what type of mail
storage is
being used. Not a blanket statement here like you gave
him.

Yes I thought I had made that clear by saying my advise
assumed he
hadn't turned that setting on and I gave the exact setting.
It is off
by default and the only way it can be on is by the admin
setting it. I
will try and make it clearer in the future...
