Hi:
I have some domains and users on a Windows Surge
Mail Machine I would like to move to a Linux Surge mail Machine. Is
there a method of doing this without have to reenter the names and
users?
Thanks!

Set-it up as a mirror slave. Once they move change it to master.

The easiest way is to set the new machine up as a mirror and
allow the
old machine to transfer all data. After the data and users
are received
and verified make the new machine the master. I have done
this twice
now as our system has grown and it works with no problems.
Just follow
the instructions on setting up a mirror.

Yes and then you can keep the older machine as the backup -
slave. Then in
3 years or so you rotate a newer server in place.

| New Domain Key Question |
  United States |
2008-05-16 13:06:33 |
Now that I finally got it working. Do I take the t=y out of
(both) my dns
records? Surgemail says the (testmode) t=y is
recommended.
Also, do all the domains use the same key? Are the keys
automatically added
to all domains sending through this server?
Thank you in advance

To all the good tekkies here:
zen.spamhaus.org has been very valuable as an RBL,
however they are now going into a phase where if the IP address of your DNSs
make too many queries, they (or an agent) will send you a letter asking for
$800+, $1500+, $3000+ per year... based on the number of email
accounts.
The letter also contains a threat to disallow any
further communication with spamhaus.org
I deem the letter to be serious.
While a few thousand bucks per year is a good
investment, I'd rather put that money into my Vette. Surely you guys have
a better use also.
My fear is that it seems like Spamhaus.org, Google
and others are eventually going to control a lot of the internet.
One thing we can do is to ask Netwin to setup a DNS
for us, bite the bullet, and then rebill a share to us Surgemail
admins.
Another thing we can do is to grep the daily logs
and add those to our own RBLs. The RBL would need to be first in
line.
Our own RBLs then can keep an IP listed for 30, 60,
90 days vs the typical 'hours' cacheing.
My question is: Can we insert a line of code
into the Surgemail logging section that If an IP is found in <named RBLs>
then add a formatted line into a database or txt file. I'd say that a db
would be more pracical.
Netwin: Please consider having a Level1 RBL
and an Level2 RBL. If found in Level1, then don't check Level2, saving
hits with outside RBLs.
And if an IP is found in Level2 >
zen.spamhaus.org Then add to <database of Level1 RBL>
What are your thoughts on this guys?

This is nothing new and has been their public policy for a long time.
They used to just block your queries without warning. At least they
are sending a letter now.

Are you denying, accepting or stamping based on an rbl hit?
If you are denying on an rbl hit, then surge should stop checking the
other rbls you have configured. Therefore if you check Zen last, then
your other RBL's will catch some before getting to Zen.
We don't use Zen here only PBL and XBL and then only after NJABL
decided to give Spamhaus it's dynamic ranges.
I have not read the Spamhaus Service Agreement to determine if it's
acceptable for NetWin to 'resell' the Spamhaus lists.

Netwin wouldn't need permission to resell.... they're not
selling.
The point here is that I'm looking for a mechanism to
store IPs for3 or 6 months at a time, not days.
