Jere when in remote mode the functions on the SB 800 or SB 600 are
controlled by the Commander. An SB 800 or SU 800 on the hot shoe or hot
shoe extension can act as a Commander on the D50. Other DSLR's D70,
D80, D200, D300, can use the on board flash as a Commander. The D50
can't.

Yo could set your SB 800 to SU 4 mode and trigger it using your D50
on board flash with your Exposure mode set to manual.

Only option for 1 SB800 as a remote with the D50

if you had an SC17,SC28 or SC29 they would work well but only up to
about 4 ft from the camera.

Good shooting

Mike

Hi Mike,
I'm using my S5, not my D50. So I'm using the on board flash as the
commander.........is there a way to adjust the power of the SB800 when
doing this? It seems like in camera I am only adjusting the power of
the on board flash.

thanks,
Jere
