OUCH! That almost brings tears to my eyes. I plan to go out today to
see if I can "score" the right product. Assuming that I can find the
right product, and just for grins I am going to add an old home remedy in
the experiment. In the olden days folks used rice to absorb moisture. I
recall seeing it added to salt shakers in school cafeterias. I never
considered it much of a solution, but it can't hurt to find out.

Just curious...do you have any way to monitor the humidity inside your
cabinet?

I just saw this reply. It must be the old days here as we still use
rice in the salt shakers to keep the salt from clumping in our
humidity. Rice would not work here as a desiccant for the lenses - it
would bring grain mites. I got enough trouble with debris in the lens
- I do not need to add crawling stuff to the problem!

I never thought of a humidity monitor! May have to invest just to see
what the humidity in my cabinet is!

How is the bentonite research project coming?

Aloha,
Pam

I may have a tip for you Pam. I used to keep my telescope, covered
in plastic, in my unheated outside garage. I was always amazed how
damp it was when I uncovered it. It would happen winter and
summer. Condensation I guess. I researched some telescope forums
and the overwhelming response was to keep a 40 watt bulb lit under
the plastic. It's warmth prevented any humidity from doing any harm.
It really worked.
Maybe you could keep a small lamp on in your cabinet? Say 25 watts?

There's a product, and I can't remember the name, I found it at Home
Depot right after K and bought it for my store. It comes in a milk
carton type container, and looks like tiny styrofoam balls. Amazing
stuff, it actually takes the water out of the air. I was filling up
cups with water from the humidity, everyday.
