I just picked my 18-200 VR lens yesterday at Samy's Camera in Venice, CA. It was their last one. I don't know how many they got in.

As for Bleed or Creep, lens on camera at 18mm and aimed at the ground, lens stays put. Then, with it zoomed out to 200mm and aimed at the sky and shakened, it stays put. But, if the lens is anywhere mid-way between 30mm and 70mm, and aimed toward the sky, it will creep back.

Beyond 70mm it seems "stiffer." However, my guess is that in time, what feels stiff should loosen up somewhat.

I believe, though, most push pull zoom lenses will back down when aimed upward or downward. The fact that this is a twish zoom, not a push pull, that moves doesn't bother me. Does this bother anybody? Really?

"Bleed"?

"Creep", perhaps?

Yes, me. It's the only negative aspect of the lens and caused me a
lot of grief since I do a lot of upwards and downwards shooting. I
first "discovered"; the problem with the lens on one of my D70s on a
tripod aimed down; I composed the shot, looked away to check something
and pressed the remote release, then wondered what happened -- it was
the creep.

Whenever I use that lens for other than horizontal shooting I have to
hold the barrel to prevent creep (think: shooting airplanes or ground
critters). Very annoying, and none of my other lenses, including the
original D70 kit lens, have that problem.

With that written, I still use the 18-200 VR lens a lot for "normal"
shooting (it's almost always on one of my D70s for just that purpose)
and I've had it for about a year now.

A friend with a D200 finally received his 18-200 VR and expressed to
me the same comments about the creep, so this is something inherent
to this specific lens design.
