Karl , sorry that I am just now replying back to say 'Thank You' for your
reply .
Just came home return home this morning .
The steps that you gave me is how I also set the sb-600 speedlight flash
back to mode and I also been using the TTL settings . Its good to read that
I have that much right with my settings .
I wasn't sure about the TTL-BL setting . I did try to use it couple of times
and didn't get very good photo at all .
Now I understand why.
Karl , I also get too much flash when shoot inside pictures , thank you so
much for much for explaining how you sometimes lower your settings down
to -1/3 . I will make sure that I lower mine the next time and will try my
best to remember to change it back for daytime shooting outside . Thank you
for telling me this tip .Also about I shouldn't worry about the CPU lenses .
I wasn't sure about the flash and different lens .
For some reason I have been scared to death using the Nikon D-70 camera ,
the exchangeable lens and the SB-600 flash .
I had always been use to the shoot and point camera's that does all of the
work . This camera has really shook me up and all of the steps using the
camera , flash and lens are becoming so much easier . Aperture , shutter
speed. changeable lens and this SB-speedflash really had me tored up , I
don't know why I made it so hard for myself trying to understand .
You guys has really helped me a lot . Thank you Karl for explaining this to
me.
Thanks again, Anita

>>>>>I use the SB600 and D70 frequently. As to Default settings you'll need
to make sure that they ARE set to the default.
- with the 600 on the camera, hit and hold the Mode and On/Off for a
few seconds. The LCD info will blink to tell you it's reset. Hit Mode
to stop the blinking. Now, hit the Mode button a few times to toggle
thru Manual, TTL and TTL-BL. I always use TTL (NOT the BL setting) BL
is the Balanced mode (flash output balanced to ambient light) which
sometimes results in low shutter speeds, blurred or ghosted subjects. etc.
- on the D70, go into the Custom menu item 19 and set the Flash mode
to TTL. If there's no item 19, go to the Wrench icon in the menu, CSM
menu option and set it to Detailed.
I have found that I usually get a little too much flash and therefore
set the Flash Compensation to -1/3 to take it down just a smidge. If I
use the 600 for outdoor fill flash I dial it back to -1.7 or -2.0 so
it's not real obvious.
Never change the exposure compensation as this will NOT effect your
flash output. Use Flash Comp button on the side of the D70 popup
flash. Don't worry about the zoom either. With CPU lenses (almost
every lens you might stick on your D70) the flash head should change
as you zoom. Try it - you should hear it and you'll see the readout on
the SB600.
Don't muck with the settings, put the flash on, set to P on the
exposure dial (just for testing/playing) and go shoot some stuff. The
SB600 / D70 is a smart combo if you just let them do the work.
