It's too bad all these spammers post here now. I used to really enjoy
reading the messages, I own a 5700 and d-200. If the group moved to
another site, please email me and let me know.

thankyou

Albert

You would be welcome at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Coolpix_8MP/

Even though it was founded to discuss photography with the CP8800/8400
series, it is open to all topics associated with digital photography. Since
production of high-end 21st century cameras has been suspended by all
makers, we have opened it to be much more inclusive. I too recently got a
D200 body, and there was a good bit of discussion in the group. For all
intents, this CP5700 forum seems to have become the private domain of
spammers.

Now that people are accustomed to doing photography digitally, the traffic
on all forums is now minimal. In 2000 and 2001, there were 600 to 850
messages per month in the CP990 group. The above group ranges from almost
none t0 a maximum of around 150 per month now.

In December 2004 many of the members of this group did move to a newly
created spam-free group, with active moderators. It is at the same place as
this one but called [Nik5700] rather than [Nikon5700].

It should be noted, however, that that group is not very 5700-centric
anymore; people there are mainly interested in picture-taking, no matter
what brand of camera they own. Many of the members there have moved on to
other camera models. A nice 'feature' of that group is that they suggest
one or two topics per month to take pictures of, and people are encouraged
to post their results.

And as Larry points out, there are other Coolpix-related Yahoo groups,
including [Coolpix_8MP], [Coolpix5700], [Coolpix8700], [Coolpix8700g],
[CoolpixPhotoMicroMacro], [n5700tech], [NikonCoolpix], [NikonCoolpix2], etc.
... but with varying degrees of activity, and some with poor moderation and
frequent spam.

I set up my own email filters on my incoming email that blocks about 98% of
the spam that you guys are seeing. Most of the spam here comes from a small
handful of addresses and this makes blocking it easier.

Regards,
Andy
