D300 sensor

Uri, the D300 sensor is essentially the same as it is for the D200, a
12Mp DX, 1.5 'crop factor' sensor. It is NOT 35mm frame size. The new
D3, apparently, is.

The D300 presents more refinements to the D200 body than it is a total
makeover. As Ken Rockwell says, it's more of an 'evolution' than a
'revolution' in DSLR design. The D200 was most certainly a
'revolution' over the D100 design.

IT IS surely full frame.

Evolutionary vs revolutionary depends on everyone criteria. What is
revolutionary for one must be absolutely not interest for other.
The link below shows as a side by side table the main characteristics of the
3 bodies:

IMO, D300 has some new features that places it in a totaly new class body:
- the new sensor of type CMOS allowing ISO 6400, while both D100 and D200
tops at 1600
- the LiveView LCD based preview.
- the 51 points AF system.

The fact D300 shares the same body with D200 and looks almost identical is
not a reason to label it cosmetic and evolution. It helps Nikon to keep the
crown of best small sensor DSLR, else the new Canon 40D could be a serios
D200 rival. Now with D300 it has no chance, Thom Hogan places D300 in the
Canon 5D class even if it is not FF.
