Spence,

Those prices I know. I'm really hoping to get a D3. I've already told my
wife about that, she's not ready for me to get one of those.

What I was wondering about was what the rumored "studio camera" version of
the D3 will cost, the one with a sensor spec of 18 to 24 MP. All else
equal, the sensor has to cost a lot more and the processing electronics need
to be faster, with more buffer space, etc., than the current D3. Even so,
the rumored specs are no more than 3-4 fps.

Ha, that was good... the "others", the white side ;) wonder what will be C
response to D3.
Crazy to see there are people not pleased by the not issued/not tested yet
D3, and thinking about Nikon "response" to the 21M of the others...

Well, for those under the rock, hopefully, the new pricing was useful.

Phil, yeah, getting that CFO pre-approval. I know that one. She's
like, have you made enough to pay off the last couple (D2X/H)? I
said, yes but then she asked - are they broken? I said, no. Hmm...

Anyway, wouldn't it be amazing if they could get the "x" version at
18-24MP for the same differential as the D1H/X or D2H/X? If so, it
would only be roughly US$1000 to US$1500 difference (D1/D2
respectively). At least a full frame, Nikon body for maybe US$2000
less than the competition?

I'm not really concerned if it's not as fast or has as many MP as
Canon. I'm just hoping that it focuses properly and has good dynamic
range - IQ is good. As memory goes down in price and they crank out
more of these FF sensors and get the manufacturing kinks out, they
should be able to get good yields on the sensors and electronics to
bring the price down on both regular D3 and "D3x".

And then they'll stick it in some D400-sized body.
