Here in Oz the Nikon guys told me at a show that seeing I had a D2H and an F100 that qualifies me for the NPS.
I would think D200 and D300 are perfectly suitable cameras for a pro to be using. I think Nikon would rate them just the same way as the F100 to get into NPS.
Gianni you will have to tell me what your area of Engineering is. Seeing my studio is shut now I am back in my trade, Machining *LOL* I can make some really nice bits if anyone wants some.

i would like to introduce a third option.
let me talk about myself as an example. i'm an engineer working as a consultant for different customers. i talk with people in other companies, they tell me what they need, i develop a project, have it manufactured and i have to prepare the user's manual for that machine. i need a number of images for my user's manual, then i use my camera and lenses to do
the photos i need, whichout which i couldn't do my job. this is why photography is a part of my profession without which i wouldn't live. i think i'm a professional photographer.
said this, i'm glad to see that nps in uk consider a d100 as a professional body and most of the quite-commonly used lenses are in that list: 20/2.8, 35/2 and so on. even a 28/2.8d can be a part of the 6-pieces list of professional equipment.
as usual, the (goddamn) italian importer doesn't provide us with a list of material needed to apply for the nps program.

It seems to me that what once may have been a Designation for Top
Quality Items has become somewhat expanded to include use as a
Marketing/Advertising Ploy Primarily to Boost sales . The once
[possibly ] clear line has become somewhat fuzzy since the
introduction of the term ProSumer.
A lot of Manufacturers in Most industries produce several lines of
Product aimed at different levels of the Consumer Market; Nothing New
here, and nothing New with some strictly Amateurs aspiring to
Acquire and Use better Equipment.
I am reasonablty sure that in some situations a Professional might
decide to utilize Consumer Grade equipment { where there might be a
high risk of Damage or Loss of same and the Customer might not be
willing to cover any losses for instance}
I feel a lot of Amateurs shoot with equipment that is at least
initially well beyond their abilities [ Myself for instance]
I feel some professionals [ or aspirng to be Professionals] will try
to go the cheap route and do the best they can spending as little as
possible.
I have seen some Fantastic Work by folks who will only ever consider
themselves Amateurs.
I have seen portfolios by Professionals i wouldn't pay a nickel for.
No Question many or Most Professionals do Great work; and some should
not ever be allowed to touch a Camera.
Like in our society Most Doctors are reasonably Well Qualified but
some are just bumbling fools who should not be allowed to practice
period.
As in all aspect of todays World
the title of Professional regardless of trade has been corrupted
to the point of being Meaningless.
The Quality of ones work Remains the only true measure one can rely on
Rambling Thoughts
Good Shooting

Stephen...Can you make an adapter for attaching 1 1/4" eyepieces to
Nikon lenses for less than a small fortune? Nikon use to make a
telescope adapter but, for some reason, found them
unprofitable...Dave V
