MacDimm,
Don't know about the part you are tracking down, have fought
the battery leak demon several times! Would suggest that
when you go back into the unit ALL wiring be replaced.
Battery corrosion invades all electrical circuits, no matter
how far from the source......When the circuits are powered
up and the juice starts flowing any traces of corrosion will
get a life of their own.A good wash with hot water, followed
by a rinse with a baking soda solution, then another hot
water flush should neutralize any remnants of a battery
leak.
Reminder: Don't try this on a camera unless you have first
taken it apart!
Good Luck

[NikonRepair] MD-11 repair oops!
Hello and here's my first post.I got a MD-11 off ebay, and
it was "parts or repair". I'm happy so far. Tore
it apart and discovered there had been a big battery leak
(don't know if it's acid or alkaline). Some one did a good
battery chamber clean-up, but once I opened it up further I
found lots of green patinaed copper and loose wires. I
figured out where everything went, drew pictures complete
with wire colors, and went for broke. I didn't replace the
wire in the handle because it didn't need it. The lower half
did. All was well when I realized I had removed something
and hadn't wrote it down! DOOUGH! The part is mounted down
in the gear housing. It has two wires (purple & white)
that I don't know where they go. There are two contact arms
about 1/2 inch long that touch a nearby gear with a contact
ring on it's bottom. There is a gap on the outside of the
ring to break contact during part of the rotation. What is
it called? And where does it's wires go?Thank youMacDimm
