I machined one for myself that looks sort of like this commercial model:

I thought Micro-Tools sold ones like this, but I can't find them in the
catalog anymore. I think that V-shaped one might be hard to get leverage without
slipping.

Thanks, William. I can see something like that on the European site
for Micro Tools: "Spanner Wrench Wide (Imported)". So is that the
best thing to use for this task? I'm just thinking that, if the ring
is stiff, how to provide enough force without the tool slipping or
buckling. It looks as though it could twist quite easily about the
two linking rods. But, if this is the right thing to use, I shall
get one.

Cheers,
Jason

Start here, MicroTools has eight pages of spanners.

http://www.micro-tools.com/store/SearchByCategory.aspx?CategoryCode=SPN

I use two different types on these pages, one of the first type, and
one that is flat, with side pins, on a later page.
