Is it my imagination or are countless operations impacted today with mysql meltdowns

I too have seen this some today, however late last night
(~2AM EDT) I
saw it much more.  Not sure what the issue is however.  On a
possibly
related front I've seen a 400% increase in spam today,
however SA and
ClamAV seem to be holding most of it at bay.
