the Macintel needs a software layer to act like a lawyer for Bios?
i would think a Bios code replacement would be better for a linux install.

We have that Open Source BIOS on the http://www.genesippc.com
machine
that we are using for http://www.opnqm.org
development now.

If that's the one I was working on, it is a cut-rate
bastardized version
of uboot.

Mike K.

You are right with your opinion of *that* bastardized
uboot. I think
their laxidasical attitudeand their unwillingness to
disclose their
changes and additions to uboot is what hastened MaiLogic's
demise. The
uboot people were even more frustrated with MaiLogic than I
was. I had
to send the system to a guy in Pennsylvania to get it
working.

The system I am talking about was manufactured by Motorola
for
http://www.genesippc.com
and uses an Open Source BIOS that fully
conforms with the GPL. In reality, the Open Source BIOS is
more
important than an Open Source OS in giving us freedom to do
what we want
to do with our computer hardware. It is the first line of
defense
aginst intrusive control.

BTW, we expect to get our 64-bit IBM 970 based Genesi system
in May.
