Thread: Permission on local email messages

Permission on local email messages

Hi,

I've set up offlineimap on my Debian system to backup my
Gmail account, and it
all works great. There is only one problem: All my local
email messages, that
are stored in the Maildir format, get permission 644. Is
there any way that I
can have offlineimap just make the email messages readable
by me?

Easiest thing is just change the permissions of the parent
directory.

Otherwise, set your umask. Google for umask for some help.

But even if the parent directory is only readable by the
user, can't
another user still view the email if he knows the full
path?

No. If the folder permissions are something like 0700, only
you can get in.
