Thread: Snapshot MD5 mismatch?

Snapshot MD5 mismatch?

Greetings,

Originally I was going to post a simple question asking
whether it was normal (read: expected) that the MD5
check-sum
for the install42.iso from snapshots not matching the
check-
sum advertised in the MD5 file. In fact the check-sum
reported in the MD5 file is for the previous snapshot; at
least that is the pattern I've noticed for the past three
snapshots I've seen put up on ftp.openbsd.org[1].

I downloaded a snapshot that was dated Sep. 22nd (I
believe,
but I'm not 100% on the date), but never got around to
install,
because I noticed the discrepancy in the MD5 check-sum for
the
install42.iso file. I waited until I saw a new snapshots
put up
a day (or two) ago, dated Oct. 6th. Again the MD5
check-sum
for the install42.iso file didn't match what was advertised
in the MD5 file. However, the advertised check-sum for the
Oct. 6th snapshots matched that of the previous snapshot
(Sep.
22nd). I composed a question to send to ppc but
noticed
this post[2] on misc and I figured the problem I'm seeing
must be related to the process discussed in the post, which
is being addressed.

This morning I noticed a new snapshot put up on the
site[1],
again dated Oct. 6th. I fetched that snapshot and still
noticed the discrepancy for the MD5 check-sum for
install42.iso
file and what is advertised in the MD5 file. Once again,
the advertised check-sum is that of the previous snapshot's
install42.iso file! (see
[3],[4] and [5]).

Realizing that these are trivial, and arguably non-issues,
curiosity forces me to ask:

a) Are these known issues?
b) Today is Oct. 9th, why is the snapshot that is put up
   dated Oct. 6th?

Kind regards,

Bummer. What should I do? Delete the MD5 checksums? Will
that help
stop the criticism of this ridiculous thing?

snapshots are made available on an as-is basis. If you
don't like
that, don't use them. Complaining might only result in one
thing --
that I make far fewer of them.

I didn't realize my "tone" came across as
"complaining".

 * I saw a problem.
 * I wondered if others had noticed it (read: reported it).
 * Maybe in my naive mindset I assumed someone might want
to take a look at it, if it in fact was an issue (read:
someone might want to look into fixing the problem)
 * Evidentially I was completely out of line.

My mistake.

p.s., Theo, you might consider ignoring posts that upset
you
so. Not all posts are meant to get a rise out of you.
