| Neo1973 With Screen On at PopSci! |

Hi All. I was just browsing for Neo1973 pictures, as I do
every few
days, and finally found pictures of a Neo with the screen
on! Check
out Popular Science's 10-photo gallery:
sci/whatsnew/af9aa618ea7c0110vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html&g
t;
Images 2 and 3 show the Neo booting up. It's quite amazing
how much
text fits on that screen.
The gallery is part of this short blog post:

a very very sweet image seeing the classical linux boot
scrolling over
the screen with the penguin in the corner its
allmost as if its alive
when it does that. and its so informative when something
goes wrong
looking forward to this phone. just sad that i recently got
a new phone.

WOW! Best pictures that I have seen yet. Also the first
description of the
case texture that I have read.
Great post!

Great pics ... my only regret is that there's no picture of the phone menu in action and I just don't like the comment on the last pic. Maybe it's just me (or my troubled mind) but i find it diminishing for a new product that's so wanted by the community.

Well of course they meant that it was the phone speaker.
Just wanted
to make a little joke about it.
Just by the way... 3 speakers on a phone? That's got to be a
first!
And I just love the way it looks, I gotta have one NOW!

The pictures were very nice, however, they better
have a pretty graphical boot screen for the final product. That
boot-up screen would scare the average non-geek something fierce. I
can just see it now, "Oh no! My phone is broke!"
Maybe they could have a customization setting that would allow you to
turn the geek boot screen on, but have it a pretty graphical one by
default.

Yeah well, it's only good they're concentrating on more
essential things
for now.
For the end-user launch, it'll likely be smart to have a
default
graphical boot screen, yes. Plenty of time for that.

Thank you for posting the link. The pictures look very nice
and I'm
thinking about buying a black one except the orange one . It
would be
nice to get some shots of the phone lying next to some other
smartphones
in order to get an idea of the size. (yeah I know I could
take the size
data but seeing the device next to another one would be even
better)
Regards, Denis

Sorry to rehash quite an old thread, but today I received my
copy of
Popular Science magazine for the month of May 07, and the
Neo1973 is
on the front cover, headline "iPhone's Open-Source
Rival"
The full-page article starts off this month's "What's
New" section,
and goes on to include a wonderful hi-res image of the phone
mockup.
The story talks about how providers control the content on
your phone,
and gives some speculation of new apps that will be
invented: "Imagine
if the phone's microphone could tell you are having an
in-person
conversation and hold all calls" among others.
This is great!
Mike

Maybe you could scan the article int .pdf for a Media
section of the
Wiki? I don't get Popular Science, but would love to see
any real
media on openmoko!
Cheers,
Chris
