| Moving CoceSnippets into the Wiki? |

Hi,
with our codesnippets.services.openoffice.org we have useful
resource to
find some useful snippets. But the contribution is from my
point of view
not easy enough. Although Tom Schindl did a tremendous job
to set up the
environment and infra structure and Paolo Mantovani who
provides the
excellent Snippet Creator i would like to suggest that we
move the
examples, snippets etc. into the wiki.
Why?
Because i believe that it is too much work for potential
contributors to
install the Snippet Creator, prepare a snippet/example,
post it to the
mailing list and wait until Tom has found time to integrate
it. And
later on the maintenance requires the same or more steps if
you have not
stored the snippet locally on your machine. I believe that
all this
prevents users to contribute to our example collection.
For that reason i have created a new section in the Wiki
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/API/Samples
and
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/API/Samples
where i would like
to store new snippets, examples, tutorials related to
different API use
cases and different programming languages.
I've prepared some guideline or better some rules that
should be taken
into account when contributing to the example collection.
The advantage of the wiki is quite obvious and i hope that
you share and
like the idea and that you contribute a lot of good examples
to this
collection. The contribution and maintenance in the wiki is
easy and
offers some more flexibility than the existing snippet
page.
I would like to thank you Tom and Paolo again for their good
work. Time
and technology is changing and i believe that we will have
greater
success with the wiki approach. And of course the Snippet
Creator is an
excellent example to show what's possible with StarBasic.
Stay tuned to find some nice tutorials in the near future.

in the wiki do we have syntax highlighting ?
Thanks again to Paolo and Tom for their job
maybe, a lightened version af teh snippet creator taht would
create the
Wiki-form of the snippet would be usefull ?
Not mandatory for people wanting to contribute, but still
usefull for
newcommers ?
any opinion ?

+1,
since I was searching for such a place for a macro when
writing my last
blog (http://blogs.sun.com/malte/entry/a_favorites_menu
_in_staroffice)
I searched for some time, since I couldn't believe that such
a place
didn't exist...

I am not sure, why not. But i wouldn't invest any time in
it.

actually, snippets are classified by Tom
by languages, by product (writer, calc ...)
i think we should keep this classification

I am not quite sure, which is easier:
a) Download, install, execute Snippet Creator
b) Learn and study to become a wiki editor
I quess for those, who have no experience with the wiki, a)
is much
easier.

MediaWiki is not all that hard to learn - at least not for
the basics.
There is also a MediaWiki export filter you can use in
OpenOffice.org
which works quite well (I'm using it to convert the API
Guide to Wiki
format).
htt
p://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Odt2Wiki
So... with this export filter, you don't even really need to
learn
MediaWiki syntax in detail.... just use OpenOffice.org or
StarOffice,
export your document to a text file and paste the contents
of that text
file into the Wiki editor box.

i don't think so, but we will see. I had expect much more
snippets in
our current snippet repository and i think one reason is
that it was not
easy enough to contribute.

yes we should, i will extend the hierarchical structure to
take care of
that. But of course i will first choose the language and
than the area.
As i already have mentioned in the guidelines it should be
possible to
extend the hierarchy on demand and seems that this is a
valid request
and i simply forgot it.
