Hi Fang,

about an OrgChart component, thats basically a complex
drawing using
multiple shapes that displays an organization chart. But the
user
would not have to place each individual shapes but would
have a user
interface that lets him add, remove and configure nodes from
that
chart. If you like to do something like that you should
first have
a look at other graphic software that lets you create
organization
charts.
This could maybe generalized to support more complex graphs
with easy
user interface, like flow charts or pyramid charts.
(Just do a picture search on google for "organization
chart" or
"pyramid chart" to get some visual clues what I'm
talking about)

But doing this now is not an easy task as Armin is currently
reworking
most of the drawing layer code for OOo 3.0. So any additions
to the
drawing layer will collide with his work and will not be
solved easy.
Also a big feature like this would need a specification
first that
defines what features will be supported and what the user
interface will
look like. I would not suggest to start with something huge
like that.

Regards,
Christian

Anyone can tell me something more about the second task?
Such as the requirement, schedule.

Hi Fang,

a good site to start is the Chart2 wiki page:
http:
//wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Chart2, where you
will find
many links to various Chart examples.

You can also look at competitive software: one of the best
for
statistical purposes is R (hhtp://cran.R-project.org).
Though it is not
as easy to use, it offers powerful charting capabilities. A
large
collection of charts created in R can be found at
h
ttp://addictedtor.free.fr/graphiques/allgraph.php.

Various other improvements are described in
http://graphi
cs.openoffice.org/files/documents/12/3278/List_of_whished_en
hancements_for_Charts.odt.
If you have any questions regarding statistics, feel free to
ask.
Unfortunately, I cannot guide you through the coding process
itself, but
I may be able to answer some theoretical questions.

Kind regards,

Leonard Mada
