Toshiba A215
Windows Vista Home Premium
Sun Java 6.3
(Side note, wife has Toshiba A205 with same OS and software,
and her OpenOffice
works fine. Attempted to use her download file, with same
results as below.)
After installation, attempting to load any Oo application
from Task Bar,
Windows Explorer or Command Line, a small Message Box
appears with an "Ok"
button.
harry777<at>gmail.com also experienced the problem.
In his screenshot, the
Title Bar reads "Program." Mine reads either
"OpenOffice" or "Oo 2.3" (I can
find out when I return to that computer: http://cjoint.c
om/data/kjdSKoVqoM.htm
Folks at users openoffice.org suggested we review
C:Documents and
Settings<user>Application DataOpenOffice.org2
userregistrydataorgopenofficeOfficeCommon.xcu
Neither of us have this file. Common.xcu appears in a
subfolder of C:Program
FilesOpenOffice 2.3...
Have completely uninstalled and rebooted after each
attempt:
Have attempted installing from OpenOffice.org with JRE
Have attempted installing from OpenOffice.org without JRE
Have attempted installing from cNet.com
Have attempted selecting "All users on this
computer"
Have attempted selecting "Only me"
Have attempted with normal use security settings.
Have attempted with AntiVirus (Avast), Windows Defender and
User Access Control
disabled.
Will not install in Safe Mode - Windows Installer can not be
called.
Have even attempted installing StarOffice from http://pack.google.com.
Same
results.

Just so you don't have to ask...
Clicking the "Ok" button when attempting to load
any of the Oo applications
does not load any application or show any other errors.
Just returns to the
previous state (Windows Desktop or whatever application I
happen to be in).
"Ok" Message box cannot be resized:
"Maximize" button is disabled, cannot
stretch the borders of the box, "Maximize" option
is disabled in the Title Bar
menu, as well as the Windows Task Bar menu, and
double-clicking the Title Bar
does not change the size of the Message box.

Also, although logged in as administrator, also attempted to
select the
option "Run as Administrator" - This appeared to
take a little longer than the
normal "Run", but yielded the same results.

>From Gary (glgxg <at> sbcglobal.net) :
"One of you might want to make a note that Harry is
using Windows XP SP2
so that the developers don't think that it is a Vista
bug/problem.
BTW: I booted into Windows XP Professional, it has OOo 2.3
& StarOffice
8/ installed. I then did a disk search for Common.xcu,
renamed every one
that I could find to 'x-Common.xcu-x', closed the
Quickstarter, and
started Writer. OOo created (as expected) a new Common.xcu
in
C:Documents and Settings<user>Application
DataOpenOffice.org<user>registrydataorgopenoffic
eOfficeCommon.xcu
One thing that I'd not thought of; when I installed OOo
& SO on the
Windows machine I first installed as administrator &
allowed all users
to use the program. I then logged on as a user & did the
standard
start/registration process for that user on first run. Don't
know if
that makes a difference (I primarily only use linux now),
but thought
I'd point that out."
