I think it's ok if your group also takes responsibility for
doing QA,
getting more help from the OOo QA project may not be very
likely because
PC-BSD is not commonly used there. For the initial QA
approval it might
be useful to let the automated tests successful run.

Hi Martin and Charles,

I currently do QA FR/EN testing with Maho's builds on my
PC-BSD 1.2 box
using the TCM system. I haven't tested any of the PBIs, one
of the
reasons being that native language stuff seems to take ages
to be
prepared, and the other being that Maho doesn't have the
time to fix the
all of the problems since he is essentially on his own
(unless I'm very
much mistaken).

My concern with putting PBIs on the OOo download page is
that people
will inevitably inundate Maho with bug issues that he's not
in a
position to correct, and possibly with issues linked to the
PBIs. If
that were to happen, I feel it would be necessary to
indicate to users
that the OpenOffice.org web site is not the first place
users should
turn to for help, since many of the severe problems (by
severe, I mean
crashes) actually present in the FreeBSD build are specific
to that build.

As a general remark, the Base module is very unstable and
causes OOo to
crash frequently (and yes I have opened issues for these and
Maho is
aware of them), undoubtedly because of the Java integration
(and I have
compiled my own JDK 1.5), but fixing them takes time which
Maho doesn't
have (he does after all do the builds for Mac PPC/Intel and
FreeBSD).

I'm all for improved visibility of the PC-BSD project, but
it shouldn't
mislead users into thinking that it can solve all their
business needs,
since at the present time OOo FreeBSD isn't IMHO ready for
prime time.

Just my 2 cents

Alex

I've never provided builds for PC-BSD. and builds are always
provided
by Jack L. I'm doing commit in FreeBSD ports cvs repo
only...

Right, sorry, I don't have much time to invesitigate this...

You might not know, but sooooo many small stuffs for
FreeBSD.
I worked very hard to provide 6.2-RELEASE+OOo 2.0.4 etc. It
just mean,
OOo 2.0.4 will be included with a part of official FreeBSD
6.2-RELEASE package. Time for Mac PPC/Intel is just
marginal...

Hope someone can help me a bit...
