Caio, Joost, Andre, Fhong, khirano, Stefan, and all,
While QA and release process of 2.3.0 for Japanese version,
I realized that some issues are critical for Japanese.
E.g.,
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=81390
marked as P2.
This won't be a showstopper, however if we restrict
ourselves
to Japanese, I think this is a showstopper. This issue is
also regarded
as important, from Release status meeting minutes
2007-09-24.

I'm thinking about in a near future, CJK issues which are
marked as P2/P3
are more severe than before.
So - what I'm suggesting is adding `CJK' keyword for
IssueTracker so that
we can query CJK issues much more easily.
Also - we can identify how many CJK issues are in
IssueTracker, etc, etc.
BTW: we already have Hebrew keyword in IssueTracker.
How do you think?
All the best,

I think it's necessary.
Since we are dealing with Office Suite, letters and writing
systems,
we are meeting common CJK issues like:
http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vertical_writing
h
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJK_Unified_Ideographs
If we find those common issues easy and quick, and share
them, CJK
communities along with CJK group can collaborate more on
working
together to solve common questions.
+1 for "cjk" keyword.
Thanks,
khirano

I agree with the necessity for a keyword that covers Asian
issues.
But I DO NOT agree with the word CJK.
That is obsolete and was used in the 20th century.
If you want to be an international person in this century,
please
consider CJK as a discriminatory word. Asia consists of much
more
countries and regions, not only C, J, neither K.
OpenOffice.org
offers functionalities for Asian languages, not only CJK.
If you want to track Japanese relevant issues, please say so
and
do not make a thing broad.

Tora

Hi,
Fonts is a common CJK issue because CJK share calligraphy,
roots of our Fonts.
h
ttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/East_Asian_calligraphy
If you go Tools -> Options -> Language Settings ->
Languages ->
Default Languages for documents, you find
"Asian."
If you drop it down, you see some Chineses, Japanese and
Korean.
This should be called "East Asian" or
"CJK."
Thanks,
khirano

Hi,
Asian is rich in diversity with languages and cultures.
Asian languages include Thai, Lao and Indic languages, which
are
categorized "CTL (complex text-layout)" for
OpenOffice.org. This is
right for Office Suite.
You can see these languages if you go Tools -> Options
-> Language
Settings -> Languages -> Default Languages for
documents, and drop the
"CTL" down.
Thanks,
khirano

Very unique viewpoint, which I have never thought of.

OpenOffice.org trys to offer them for all the languages on
the earth.

Hello khirano,
I really hate YOU.
Please do not attack me in such a way that you repeatedly
did in the ja-NL project.
Bye.

Hi,
In terms of Asian Languages, more Asian, East Asian or South
East
Asian languages will come into OpenOffice.org, like
Indonesian and
Tagalog.
http
://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesian_language
http://
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tagalog_language
They use alphabet. So they don't have to be categorized
"Asian" or
"CTL" for current OpenOffice.org.
We may need to make a slight change in "Default
Languages for
documents," and have two categories, "CJK"
and "CTL."
Thanks,
khirano

+1. When it comes to localization and internationalization,
we also have
to take into account the current usage patterns, so CJK
should be
maintained (even if that's reputed obsolete).
If the usage is proven to disappear, then we'll change it.
Best,
Charles.

OK, thanks to khirano and Charles, I have sightly changed my
opinion.
+1 for adding a keyword 'cjk'
The word cjk has been used for years among i18n engineers
and implies
vertical writing, grid layout, input method, and so on. It
might be
easier for them to understand the word cjk than another new
word.
The reason why I opposed to the spell cjk was about the rest
of languages:
- CJK covers Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
- CTL covers languages written in right-to-left.
- What word can cover the rest of the languages in Asia.

Tora
