In the end, I would like to have ready-to-use methods for
"naive" users,
with the list of method definitions extensible by less naive
users. A
good first step seems to be an implementation of a few
exemplary
methods, to get the connection to R to work.

Somebody else's work seems to be under GPL in most cases,
which we
currently don't want to use. This probably also rules out
most of the
existing interface libraries and might force us to start a
separate
process and pass command line arguments.
