Can we get these little details changed in an interim
release (say
2.0.5?) before we do something more significant?

This could be done even the current version:
- open writer
- press F4
- select bibliography and browse to tables
- select table biblio
- mark all records in the table
- presse delete
- anser the question box with yes
-> be happy
There is really no need to rand a prefilled database. You
could use this
databes to by some really usefull books about OOo that would
have
explained how to delete those records.

Thanks for the explanation, but I hope you're joking here.
There's no
good reason why this db is prefilled. It comes across like
beta
software where someone forget to remove the test data.

No, I'm not joking, as I know users who find this data
helpfull and have
even requested an update of the data.
But if it is really disturbing, we have some protocols for
changing a
feature in OOo .. this usually start by reporting an issue.
(So that the
change is trackable)

I have never come across any database application that
prefills
content, unless perhaps it's generic content like country
codes or
whatever in a relational db (not relevant here, because a
flat db).
Moreover, I don't recall ever meeting anyone who actually
uses the
existing bibliographic support. So I'm not sure what users
are
requesting it be updated. I'm sure you won't hear such a
request on our
mailing lists.

OK.
