Hi all,

I'm LiJian from Redoffice Team. Our team is interested in
the projects listed under SW:
1.Enhanced Forms
2.SmartTags
3.Improvement of field handling

While I have some quetions about these tasks:
1.The descriptions about the projects are a bit simple, so I
can't clearly get the requirements;
2.About the compatibility between OOo and MS, I hope some
examples how to operate in
MS can be given.

Hope somebody can give me some more information, and
looking forward to your reply.

Where did you find this list of projects? Is it in our wiki
or on
sw.openoffice.org?

Best regards,

Frank

Hi Frank,

Glad to hear from you and thank you for your reply!
I've just returned from my holiday lasting 2 weeks,
so I've missed many opportunities communicating with
others.
Hope I can catch up.

For this list please see http://de
velopment.openoffice.org/todo.html
Under Writer projects you will find it.

Hope you can give me some suggestions about these tasks and
the questions I mentioned in my last letter.
Thank you!

Best regards

I'm sorry, this is is completely outdated and we just forgot
about it. I
will make sure that is is removed ASAP.

The most current ToDo list can be found in

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/To-Do_Li

Hello Mathias,

We're SW group from redoffice team. We'd like to do some
contribution about Writer to the community.
Would you please give us some introductions about what is
going on with Writer?
If we want to do some work, are they all in the todo list of
Writer on wiki?

Looking forward to your reply.

The "ToDo" list in our wiki is a list of potential
occasional external
contributors, but there is more for developers that want to
contribute
on a more regular basis.

What we are currently doing can be seen on

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer_
Work_In_Progress

What we have planned to do in the near future is written on

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Writer_Plan
ned_Work

Most of the task here are on hold due to missing
preconditions like ODF
specifications.

Some issues that are under evaluation are listed at

http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/W
riter_Stuff_Under_Evaluation

I would like to point you to especially one issue:

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=6193
("Notes hard to see
and edit")

The "Notes" feature in Writer lacks usability and
doesn't look very
appealing. This is the Writer RFE with the most votes in our
community.
As it is quite some work to do but does not go too deeply
into the
Writer core and layout code it is a great task for
developers new to
Writer that want to get into the code and that love to work
on a
challenging and safisfactory task.

I hope this gives you some overview.

Best regards,
Mathias

We have been surprised by a very promising application for
the Google
Summer Of Code project where the student explicitly wanted
to work on
the "Notes" subject.

So please consider working on another issue. I'm very sorry
and I hope
that I didn't waste too much of your time, but at the time
where I
recommended the "Notes" issue to you I wasn't
aware of the Google Summer
of Code application I received last week.

There are some other interesting issues that could help us a
lot. Here's
one that immediately comes into my mind:

"Easier cropping and rotating of images"

http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=3545

I will present you some more tomorrow.

Best regards,
Mathias

So, there is one thing I would like to know before I can
make further
investigations.

I assume that you are not very familiar with the Writer code
at the
moment. This makes me think that we should start with tasks
that do not
touch core and layout functionality too deeply. Starting
with more GUI
related tasks looks easier to me. What do you think?

Best regards,
Mathias
