Jacob,
James,
As the original poster of the message, I can tell you that
Sanskrit is
not a supported language in so far as there is no Sanskrit
dictionary,
thesaurus, etc., in OOo, as in most other softwares I know,
for that
matter. However, typing Sanskrit words in a romanized font
is not a
problem at all since all the characters that I need are
included in
Lucida Grande (on a Mac), for example, and can be input
through the
Insert > Special character menu. The characters for
romanized Sanskrit
are the same as those for English, except for a macron on
some vowels,
an acute accent on the letter "s", a dot under
some consonants, etc.
The characters are therefore available. But going to the
Insert >
Special character menu every time one wishes to input a
Sanskrit
citation in a paper is so painstaking that remapping the
keyboard is
usually the solution. My problem therefore seems to be
related to X11
or OOo's lack of support of user-defined keyboard.
I had posted a message on a French forum before posting it
to
oooforums.org, where Jacob offered to looked for a solution.
Then I
found this forum. But nobody appears to know of a solution
to my
problem on either forum, so I guess I'll just wait for the
next update
before switching to OOo, since I cannot do without the
Sanskrit for my
actual translation project. Thanks.
