| Disappering App 2.2 on 10.4.9 |

|

Hello.
When it was first released, I attempted to start up OOo 2.2
running on
Tiger. The App disappears a few seconds after launch
(opening X11 if
not already open).
I originally posted a message on the OOo Users mailing list.
At the
time I was running an older version of 10.4 and it was
suggested I
update to 10.4.9, which I have done. I'm running on PPC
(Dual 1.8 G5s).
I have read the Mac Port FAQ at porting.openoffice.org and
searched
past postings to this list. Unless I've missed something, I
couldn't
locate anything addressing my particular situation.
I have been using both X11 & OOo since before I upgraded
to Tiger when
it first came out.
(I also mistakenly downloaded the X11 update package
(X11Update2006.pkg)
but I'm told that my system doesn't need this update.
Regards
Graeme

We had a similiar Issue on german users Mailinglist and the
solution was that the user did update from 10.3.x to 10.4.x
and
from there to 10.4.9 but during all of those updates X11
wasn't
updated as well. Back when 10.4.x was new this was a well
known and
often asked but the older 10.4.x became the lesser I and
others
remembered this.
The solution for this is pretty easy. Delete X11 out of
/Applications/Utilities and the receipt
"X11User.pkg" out of
/Library/Receipts. Afterwards install the X11 from your
Tiger
Installation DVD according to the instructions Apple
provides here
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=3012
29-en>.
Afterwards you should be able to also install the
X11Update2006.pkg.
Once all this is done OOo, according to the german user who
had the
similiar problem, runs.
HTH.
Kind regards,
Eric Hoch

X11 issue, probably.

Can you please :
1) rename the X11User.pkg folder, located in
/Library/Receipts ?
2) then install this X11 version :
WARNING : please confirm you are using a PowerPC before to
install it**
http://ftp.cusoo.org/MacOSX/Utilities/PowerPC/X11Us
er.pkg.zip
.. and let us know if everything is ok ?
FYI, you can directly discuss with us on IRC :
server : irc.freenode.net
channel : #ooo_macport
Regards,
Eric Bachard
**For Intel version, please install :
http://ftp.cusoo.org/MacOSX/Utilities/Intel/X11User.p
kg.zip instead

Hi Eric.
Thank you very much for your detailed and precise
instructions on how to
remove/reinstall & then update X11 for 10.4.9
The message (seen on previous X11 update attempts)
"Your system doesn't
need this update." was the road block for me.
I wanted to let others know that this solved the issue and
I'm now
enjoying OOo 2.2
Regards
Graeme
