This is more wack namespacing. We've taken to start to suck
down RSS/Atom
(yes, the target will be made available via
OpenSearch/SRW/SRU/Z39.50 as
well as a minimal protocol we've been developing as cheap
to parse without
any need for more than a few lines to code) and among the
RSS 09x/2.0 is a
lot of junk rivaling much of the garbage we've seen in
sucking down 100s of
millions of HTML pages over the course of the last few
years.
In 2.0 there is an <image> sub-element of
<channel>. The <image> has <link> to
where the <image> for the <channel> can be
rendered. There are also <enclosure>s
to let one attach media objects to <item>s
Now the Media RSS Module people (spelled Y-A-H-O-O) came
around (as if people
were doing RSS 2.0 correctly) suggested that it was
insufficient (to their
envisioned business model)--- I may point out that of the
feeds we've analyzed
from popular BLOG packages almost all (make that effectively
ALL) can't even
get their character sets, language and basis metadata right
and most all jam
(without namespaces) any or all HTML into
<description> with HTML hyperlinks
nearly the rule rather than the exception.
Sure one can extend RSS 2.0 with workarounds that can be
used to sidestep
enclosures but the whole mess is hardly an example for
people who should know
better to follow...
