Looking at things, it is going to take a fair amount of work
to get it going on Solaris as things stand now.

I am now looking at how much effort it would take to use
autotools to make this simpler. I'll take a couple hours and
look into this.

To add more to what I said earlier, here is what I have done
till now.

Installed Solaris 9 (install CD, Disk1, Disk2) from Sun's
website, then
installed some more packages including
gcc-3.4.6-sol9-x86-local and
make-3.80-sol9-intel-local from http://www.sunfreeware.co
m/

Do I need some sort of combination of make/gmake/cc/gcc for
compiling?

I am using make and here is the output of PATH env variable.

# echo $PATH

/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin

# make

DEPENDENCIES : bins/isCmosTokenActive.d

/bin/sh: syntax error at line 1: `BASE=$' unexpected

make: *** [bins/isCmosTokenActive.d] Error 2

Are you using GNU make on solaris and GCC? Or are you using
solaris make and
cc?

Subject: Build error: Solaris 9 + libsmbios

Hi,

I am trying to compile libsmbios on Solaris 9 (x86
architecture). I have
downloaded the older source code version i.e.
libsmbios-0.10.5 and I am
getting following error as soon as I start the build in the
main directory.

DEPENDENCIES : supported-bins/assetTag.d

/bin/sh: syntax error at line 1: `BASE=$' unexpected

make: *** [supported-bins/assetTag.d] Error 2

Any ideas what this could be for? Is it that I have to write
new Makefile?
Any clues would be appreciated.

Thanks

Thanks Michael,

As I understand you will be working on autotools to make the compilation simpler. After this running some script should create Makefiles and then simple “make” should build the libsmbios.

Is there any other way that I can compile the libsmbios code before you come up with the tools?

Thanks & regards,
