Dear Michael and libsmbios developers,

I'm not quite sure if this is the right place to ask, but I
have a strong
feeling it is.

I'm using Debian GNU/Linux on my DELL XPS Gen2 notebook and
I would like to
write an application to control the fancy LEDs from Linux
with a nice GUI.
Something like the Dell QuickSet tool for Windows.
Which functions do I have to use with which values to set
colors and
brightness of the LEDs?

Is there a documentation for this and maybe other BIOS
functions available?
I already saw some mails on this list on how to control the
display brightness
with the smitest tool which works like a charm.
But how to know that one have to look for 0x7D in the output
of dumpCmos?
It could also be interesting, how to separately switch WLAN
and Bluetooth on
and off (the Fn+F2 hotkey always switches both)?

By the way: I saw a plugin for some Windows media player
which flashes the
LEDs in the beat of the music. Is it save to change the LEDs
at such a high
rate or does it wear out the CMOS memory?

With best regards

Stefan

Hello again,

if anyone from Dell could tell me where I could find
documentation or where
else to ask for this, please don't hesitate to tell me. I
would be pleased
like a little child if I could control the LEDs from my
Linux.

With best regards

Stefan
