I'm assuming Physaxe is written in haXe and cannot be used
in an AS3
project correct?  It would only be usable in a haXe written
and compiled
app... correct?

It is written in haXe for Flashplayer 9, so it uses the AS3
API and
compiles as SWF. That means you can use it as you would any
external
SWF written in AS3, all you need are the headers. I guess it
wouldn't
be too difficult to package it as an SWC for use with Flex
or Flash.

But of course, using haXe is always preferable.

You can generate the physaxe AS3 source code by running :

haxe -as3 phx -lib physaxe --no-inline main Main

You can then compile phx/__main__.as

However, since it will be compiled with MXMLC, it will not
benefit of 
haXe optimizations so it should be slower.
