Hi Christine: I think it depends on the user. For me having
a long
document is preferable to having it split into separate
pages. But, I
guess I do "scroll" differently than most people
e.g. to get to the top
of the page, i hit the "Home" key,
"end" for bottom. And to scroll, I
use the arrow keys. All of that, imho, is easier on my
hands and there
is a sense of more control and easier control with the
arrows and I vary
fingers a lot. (one just has to get the focus into the page
which can
be done with the tab key).

i do wish more people knew how to scroll w/out using the
mouse, i think
then it wouldn't be as much of a design issue.
