Where can one find out these numbers by the way? I cannot
confirm the page
tables raise with the PageTables entry in /proc/meminfo.

Are you sure? I can. on 10.2 it grows by 2.2MB when I start
from init 3 to
init 5. Ok, its not a lot, given that the kernel throws away
40MB of memory
after booting, but still its something that can be different
from desktop to
desktop.
